Meltham Wildlife Rescue, Holmfirth
Here at Meltham Wildlife Rescue we rescue and rehabilitate orphaned and injured wildlife.
Situated at the heart of Meltham Village, Holmfirth we are a family run organisation that has been running 15 years. The Matriarch of the Rescue, Kathy, has dedicated her life to helping wildlife and is mostly found in one of our hedgehog huts or bird huts aiding the sick wildlife. With the assistance of Nigel, Kathys partner and her daughter Natalie, Kathy runs the rescue 24-7. Our policy is to never turn away sick wildlife.
We are aiming for charitable status in the near future and help is always needed. Volunteers are required! If you are interested in volunteering or work experience there are many opportunities available to suit you. Please message us for more details.
If you feel you can help in anyway please check our wishlist. Wishlist donations are accepted all year round. Thank you.
Posts are either signed ~Kathy from Kathy herself or ~MWR which is either Nigel or Natalie.
Injured or orphaned animals can appear when you least expect them and not always in the most easily accessible places. Please make sure that you do not put yourself or anyone else in danger while trying to help an animal.
If you can catch the animal without risk to yourself then use a towel to catch the animal (or similar) and place in a newspaper and fleece lined box with suitable air holes. You can add a direct source of heat making sure that it is well wrapped and there is space for the animal to move away from the heat source if required.
Because every animals requires different care please contact your local rehabilitator before attempting to feed etc. We recommend you ringing your local rehabilitator for guidance at this point.
